Comlab Comlab Box

Serial Communications Protocol Analyzer

With COMLAB, a PC or compatible computer is transformed into a powerful protocol analyzer. By breaking the serial path between two devices and inserting the PC, COMLAB allows you to non-intrusively listen to existing communication links. This allows you to investigate their protocol, even when no documentation exists.

Using two PC serial ports, COMLAB buffers both data lines and lets you send data in either direction while actively monitoring communications traffic. COMLAB can also be used to simulate one end of a serial control link. Unlike other analyzers, COMLAB allows you to write RT-"C" programs to analyze and generate communications over the serial data line. You can use the built-in RT-"C" compiler to prototype and perfect communication functions before adding them to your real application. This two-way simulation / monitoring capability is unique to COMLAB.
